A Grumpy Old Git, has just joined the new Green Arrow Forum and made it perfectly clear what he really really wants and I am very much inclined to agree with him. No pie in the sky stuff here. Just reasonable demands that we would all expect from a "decent" government.
As far as I can see from the list posted by the Grumpy Old Git those would be demands that the British National Party would be more than happy to meet. Tidied up a bit, here they are:
- I want to be able to live my life without fear, oppression, discrimination.
- I want to expect protection from hooligans, criminals and undesirables.
- I want a government that will instill a culture of respect and unselfishness in the general population.
- I want a government that will insist on higher moral standards.
- I want a government that will listen to the general will of the people.
- Not to have my government jeopardize my safety or the environment I live in.
- I want a government that practices truth and honesty.
- I want a government that respects the rights of citizens and instructs the population to respect other people, the environment they live in, public and private property and the rights of others to have freedom of choice.
- I would like to see an end to minority groups of all persuasions having disproportionate influence over the silent majority. I would like to have a government that promotes morality and the Christian ethic.
- I want a government that governs for the whole of the country and not just the towns and cities.
- I want a government that recognizes that rural communities have a legitimate right to their way of life, in all aspects, and that the countryside is not a theme park for urban dwellers to exploit at weekends, or worse, open space to build on.
- I want a government that lets me choose how I spend my hard-earned money and not the state decide through taxes.
- I want this country to be governed by our government and not Brussels.
- I want less political correctness.
- I want to be dictated to less by do-gooders, health & safety freaks and other busy bodies.
- I want my government to interfere less in the affairs of other nations unless specifically requested by the UN.
- I want more efficient government with far fewer employees.
- I want the Regional Assemblies abolished.
- I want immigration controlled.
Sorry about the Spice Girls but on down market, tabloid blogs we like to throw in a few girlie images now and again.

Britain's Islamic Fatalism
"I ask him to bring a new spirit of urgency to the fight against the Zeus of Iran and his attempt to kidnap our freedoms; and by doing so, to show New Labour's commitment to the true spirit of Europe - not just to an economic community, or to monetary union, but to European civilization itself."
The excerpt above is from a letter written by Salman Rushdie to Britain's "The Guardian" newspaper on 14 February 1997. It was on this day, the eighth anniversary of the fatwa against him, that Salman Rushdie would castigate Europe's politicians for cynically abandoning the ideals of free expression and human rights. In retrospect, Sir Salman Rushdie's words would offer a veiled glimpse at the coming future of European and Western civilization. A civilization that would one day willingly subjugate itself to dhimmitude, all in the name of diversity and "religious tolerance".
You might have expected a strongly worded statement on the 14th of February from 10 Downing Street, perhaps even in response to Hamid Ansari's declaration on Iranian State television that the "fatwa" calling for the death of Sir Salman Rushdie still stands, but this is not the courageous and proud Britain of the past, this is a nation now resigned to fatalism. Islamic fatalism.
It is hard to imagine that Sir Salman Rushdie could have possibly imagined that just eleven years later not only would the Archbishop of Canterbury be conceding that Britain's acceptance of Islamic law was inevitable, but that Iran would be on the very verge of developing a deliverable nuclear weapon. Is there truly any hope for a civilization hopelessly consumed with a "pathological self-hatred", a self-hatred that has now become dangerously fused with both anti-rationalism and as the Archbishop has so demonstrated, an Islamic fatalism?
Britain's latest disgrace is to unwittingly assist Islamic extremists in perpetuating their "us versus them" dichotomy by issuing special "Islamic bonds". What was wrong with the regular bonds you might ask? Well, the for Britain's Islamic fundamentalists, the regular bonds are "unclean" by Islamic standards. Make no doubt about it, with the assistance of quislings like Rowan Williams and Chancellor Alistair Darling, Islam's foot soldiers are busy with the task to ensure that Islam's religious precepts are all being duly incorporated into civil law.
For a government hopelessly enamored with the concepts of diversity and multiculturalism, these sharia-compliant bonds are a naive and misguided way of tapping Middle-East money and building bridges with the Muslim community, but the reality is that this "banking apartheid" contributes not to economic prosperity, but only to racial and ethnic chauvinism. What Britain's leaders lack is foresight, the foresight to see that that by rejecting their own principles and values and then bolstering Islamic self-assertion, chauvinism and values, they only substantiate the dualistic sociopolitical ideology professed by Islam's hardcore fundamentalists. It is the relentless accommodation and appeasement of these fundamentalists that continues to embolden them.
When the day of maturity comes, and it will, these bonds will be repaid with English blood and not with sterling.

Lao,
As a former colonial, I might have a better perspective on the British relationship with Islam.
British Colonial rule (as opposed to French Colonial rule) actually strengthened Islamic institutions.
A good example is Niger and Nigeria. In Nigeria, the British ruled indirectly through the Emirs (Islamic rulers) and discouraged the activities of CHRISTIAN missionaries whilst in Niger the French ruled directly and curtailed the power of the Emirs.
The result: Nigeria has Shari'a law while Niger does not.
The British elite has always had a soft spot for Islam (watch BBC, listen to Thatcher, listen to Prince Charles) - and the Islamists know that. Rowan Williams was merely projecting into the future.
If the British could not stand up to Islam in their colonies, what makes you think they can do it today? There is a vacuum, Britain is no longer a Christian nation and another religion is poised to fill that vacuum.

GEN SIR RICHARD DANNIT MADE THE VERY SAME OBSERVATION IN NOVEMBER 2006...WHEN HE SAID" THERE IS A VACUUM IN ENGLAND THAT ISLAM IS ONLY TOO WILLING TO FILL"

The Guardian (UK) -- Reference to the Trans-Balkan Pipeland
7/21/2004
In an article about Halliburton and its subsidary, Kellog Brown & Root, the Guardian mentions KBR's hand in building a large base in the Balkans on the Trans-Balkan Pipeline. Readers will recall the 12/7/99 article of uncertain authenticity laying out the long-range stragetic reasons for the U.S. policy in the Balkans. The Guardian article contains the following paragraph:
One example of the work KBR did in the Balkans was Camp Bondsteel. The camp was so large that the US general accounting office (GAO) likened it to "a small town". The company built roads, power generation, water and sewage systems, housing, a helicopter airfield, a perimeter fence, guard towers, and a detention centre. Bondsteel is the largest and most expensive army base since Vietnam. It also happens to be built in the path of the Albanian-Macedonian-Bulgarian Oil (Ambo) Trans-Balkan pipeline, the pipeline connecting the oil-rich Caspian Sea region to the rest of the world. The initial feasibility project for Ambo was done by KBR.

It appears that the 1999 article was right on the money.
Jan Oberg: Peacemaking in Kosovo Coming to an End - for Predictable Reasons
4/29/2004
There is a long-term background and some root causes behind the emerging peace-keeping failure in Kosovo. Media and politicians tend to forget them because they were ignored during the 1990s and do not fit the standardised image of the conflict. In this analysis, TFF (Transnational Foundational for Peace and Future Research) director who has been engaged in Kosovo since 1991 discusses some of the most important among those causes. Read the article.
Chossudovsky on Low-Intensity Nuclear War
January, 2001
As the number of cancer cases among Balkans "peacekeepers" rises, NATO's cover-up has started to fracture. Several European governments have been obliged to publicly acknowledge the "alleged health risks" of depleted uranium (DU) shells used by the US Air Force in NATO's 78-day war against Yugoslavia.

QUOTE " IT IS CLEAR NATO HAD PLANNED TO BOMB YUGOSLAVIA LONG BEFORE ETHNIC UNREST OCCURED.
Yugoslavia, Camp Bondsteel and the Caspian Sea
by Lenora Foerstel
Global Research, January 30, 2008
During World War II, the Croatian nation fought side by side with Hitler’s Germany. The Serbian people, like the Jewish people, were slaughtered by the Croatian army and those who survived were placed in concentration camps. After the Fascists were defeated in World War II, Croatia became a republic of Yugoslavia.
In 1990, Franjo Tudjman became President of Croatia. During his reign he fired 300 women journalists and closed down any newspapers and television stations that offended him. His rule gave power to a small oligarchy. Yet despite his ultra-nationalism and his brutal purge of ethnic Serbs from Croatia, the US, under President Bill Clinton and his Balkan adviser, Richard Holbrook, supported Tudjman’s regime.
In early August 1995, the Croatian Army received support from the Pentagon and the CIA in planning and carrying out the attack on Croatia’s Krajina region and the expulsion of its 250,000 ethnic Serbs. Croatian soldiers had been trained at Fort Irwin, California, and additional training assistance came from a private company of mercenaries, the American Military Professional Resources Incorporated (MPRI). The end result was US participation in an unprecedented act of ethnic cleansing, resulting in a quarter of a million Serbs fleeing from their homes.
In the early 1990’s, tension broke out in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In September 1992, in an attempt to prevent Bosnia–Herzegovina from sliding into war, several international peace plans were offered. The most reasonable proposal was the Carrington-Cutileiro plan, under which all districts in this area would be divided up among Bosnia’s Muslims, Serbs and Croats.
Initially, the plan was signed by all three sides, but it was never implemented because Alya Izebegavic, Bosnia’s Muslim leader, withdrew his signature from the agreement after Washington promised to recognize Bosnia as an independent country.
In 1991, Croatia and Slovenia declared their independence from Yugoslavia. They had been encouraged to do so by Germany, which hoped to reestablish traditional German influence in the Balkans. The United States then joined Germany in supporting the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), promising military and political assistance to the ethnic Albanian separatist organization in its quest for an independent Kosovo and, ultimately, a greater Albania.
In 1998, Richard Holbrooke, representing the Clinton Administration, came to Kosovo and appeared in public ceremonies with the KLA, sending a clear signal that the US was backing them. Exploiting the tensions between the KLA and the Serbs in Kosovo, the US used staged ethnic protests and conflicts to justify military intervention. In March 1999, in Rambouille, France, the United States demanded that Yugoslavia accept NATO occupation of Kosovo and the expulsion of all Yugoslav forces. Milosevic refused, and the United States used this as a pretext for war.
On March 27th, 1999, the Clinton administration initiated heavy bombing of Yugoslavia. These attacks on a sovereign country were never approved by the United Nations or the US Congress, violating both international law and the War Powers Act.
The US and NATO had advanced plans to bomb Yugoslavia before 1999, and many European political leaders now believe that the US deliberately used the bombing of Yugoslavia to establish camp Bondsteel in Kosovo.. According to Colonel Robert L. McCure, “Engineering planning for operations in Kosovo began months before the first bomb was dropped.” (1)
In June 1999, in the immediate aftermath of the bombing of Yugoslavia, US forces seized 1,000 acres of farm land in southeast Kosovo at Uresevia, near the Macedonia border, and began the construction of a camp. (2) Brown and Root, a subsidiary of Halliburton, currently provides all of the services to the camp. This same company receives $180 million per year to build military facilities in Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia, and several other countries. Presently, the Bondsteel template is being supported in Georgia and Azerbaijan. According to Chalmers Johnson, author of “America’s Empire of Bases,” the US has about 1000 bases around the world. “Once upon a time, you could trace the spread of imperialism by counting up colonies,” says Johnson. “America’s version of the colony is the military base.” (3) Kosovo is an American colony.
The main purpose for the Bondsteel military base is to provide security for the construction of the Albanian-Macedonian-Bulgarian oil pipeline (AMBO). The AMBO trans-Balkan pipeline will link up with the corridors between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea basin, which holds close to 50 billion barrels of oil.
Hashim Thaci, Kosovo’s current Prime Minister, was formerly the political head of the KLA. The KLA is widely regarded as a terrorist organization and is supported in large part by drug dealing and human trafficking, making particular use of Eastern European women. The US had begun training KLA forces well in advance of the bombing of Yugoslavia.
Presently, Camp Bondsteel houses about 1000 US military troops along with more than 7,000 local Albanian personnel. It is no coincidence that the escalating US presence at Bondsteel was accompanied by increased military activity by the KLA. Since the appearance of this massive base, more Serbs, Roma and Albanians opposed to the KLA have been murdered or driven out of Kosovo.
It is quite clear today that the United States and NATO had advance plans to bomb Yugoslavia long before the ethnic conflicts emerged there. The Kosovo Liberation Army and NATO were determined to foment violence, and no concessions by President Slobodan Milosevic would have prevented the bombing. Building Camp Bondsteel was the US mission, and, by whatever means necessary, it would be built to ensure the completion of a pipeline to the Caspian Sea.
KELLOGS BROWN AND ROOT NOW BUSY BUILDING HOLDING CAMPS IN THE USA....
