The Red Arrows Petition

Red Arrows. Too British for some. Screw them and the horse they rode in on.

I personally think that 2012 London Olympics is a waste of British Taxpayers money and is going to be something we will be paying for in decades. Remember the Millennium Dome fiasco?

However, the world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed 'too British'.

Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be 'offensive' to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team 'too militaristically British.' Red Arrows pilots were said to be 'outraged', as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before. Being axed from a British-based event for being 'too British' is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain.

The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world.

The Arrows performed a short flypast in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their flypast at the Games was to have been truly spectacular. It is to be hoped that common sense prevails.

I've signed the petition.Lets hope we can make a big deal out of this and force the government to allow the Red Arrows to do their stuff. What is the purpose of the Olympics with its enormous expense, if not to show case the best face of the country hosting it??. I dont think the Chinese will be backward in this direction next month!!Personally I think the whole show is a waste of time, space and money. All that expense to allow a bunch of drugged up prima donna's to run, jump, throw things and otherwise prance about like pampered brats.Who wins? Who can get away with the most cheating!I remember when athletics used to be relatively clean, and amateur, a great sport, one of my favourites which I took part in long, long ago, but now I would never encourage a youngster to become involved due to the chances of them becoming snared in the cheating, lying drug culture needed to reach the top. We even have the spectacle of a recent drug cheating sprinter citing his "human right" to represent us in China. If he succeeds, he certainly won't be representing me, he should be booted out forever.Pity we couldnt drop out of it and hand it over to Paris!Think fo the security risks alone, all those potential bombers and asylum seekers sneaking in under cover of the Olympic Games! GA perhaps if the aircraft were to be repainted a dark brown colour, with the hammer and sickle motif on the fuselage, and the pilots gave and received their orders in arabic, spoken with an african/west indian accent, things would be different, but hay who gives a dam, the Olympics are just another media fest, fuelled by the drug manufactures, and funded by the tax payer.
